NEW DELHI -- Rahul Gandhi appears to have dozed off in Parliament - again.

On Wednesday afternoon, news channels flashed images of Gandhi resting his forehead on his fingers, with his eyes closed. This was during a debate in the Lok Sabha on the Dalit protests unfolding in Gujarat, when Home Minister Rajnath Singh was speaking.

Incidentally, Gandhi is set to visit Gujarat on Thursday.

"If Rahul Gandhi is sleeping, this shows how serious they are about the issue," BSP supremo Mayawati told journalists, accusing the Congress Party of trying to hijack the issue.

BJP's spokesperson Sambit Patra told Times Now that Gandhi was the "sleeping prince" who would plunge the Congress Party into a "slumber."

This is not the first time that Gandhi has indulged in a catnap in the lower house of Parliament. In July 2014, Gandhi fell asleep during a debate in the Lok Sabha on price rise.

Congress Party leaders have leapt to Gandhi's defence. "This was not sleeping. How can anyone sleep in such noise. The sun is so strong outside, when we come in, we close our eyes so that some moisture comes into the eyes," Congress Party leader Renuka Chowdhury told ANI.

Meanwhile, Twitter has come up with a whole host of reasons for Gandhi's snooze, ranging from playing Pokemon for eight straight hours to racing motorbikes in the middle of the night.
