Two days after they began their hunt, the Chennai police have finally arrested the men who tortured a puppy and filmed her hurtling several storeys to the ground.

However, the duo was soon released on bail.

"We arrested Gowtham Sudarshan and Ashish Pal today and they were produced before Sriperumbudur Judicial Magistrate court," Kundrathur Police Inspector Ruban said.

"The duo were granted bail by the court," he told PTI.

On Tuesday, when the police reached their homes, they were not found there. Accused Gautham Sudarshan and Ashish Paul are the final year MBBS students from Madha medical college.

They have been booked under PCA 1960, IPC 428 and 429.

The police had said that the men had committed to surrendering in Chennai by 12.30 pm after they were contacted through their parents in their home towns of Tirunelvelli and Kanyakumari.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the college has warned that neither will be able to write their exams, should they not return and turn themselves in.

Shravan Krishnan, one of the activists, posted a picture of the puppy on Facebook, that she is unable to walk properly, but receiving medical attention.

"What breaks my heart is that she was still wagging her tail," he wrote.

One of her legs is fractured. However, vets who treated her this morning have declared her out of danger. The animal activists have named her 'Bhadra'.

The video of heart-stopping cruelty enraged Chennai after it went viral on social media. And, people came together to identify the two men.

Earlier, Humane Society International also announced to “offer a reward of 100,000 Rs to anyone who is willing to volunteer valid information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for this evil.”

Sally Kannan, Outreach Consultant at Humane Society International, posted on her Facebook:

“Look at what this filthy and miserable excuse of a human being does to the poor doggy who keeps wagging her tail until the last moment… She kept trusting the asshole even when his dirty mind was planning the worst for her.

Please share and help trace this @#$€£¥? . This is definitely in India and I am sure someone or the other can finally recognize the man in it. Any information regarding this video and the person in it will be rewarded monetarily.

The cyber crime cell in Chennai is currently investigating the case.”
