WATCH: Anurag Kashyap Is The Real Star In Sonakshi Sinha's 'Akira' Trailer

Anurag Kashyap Is The Real Star In Sonakshi Sinha's 'Akira' Trailer
Fox Star India

The trailer for the Sonakshi Sinha starrer Akira premiered online today.

The film is a hardcore action drama, with the big difference being that it has a female protagonist leading the show.

Directed by AR Murgadoss of Ghajini fame, Akira displays all the tropes of a standard Telugu actioner, but with a refreshingly cast villain in director-producer Anurag Kashyap.

Kashyap looks appropriately sinister, with a fair amount of villainy oozing out of every expression. To add to the fun, he's been given some of the zaniest lines that he delivers with aplomb.

He may not have fared too well as a director in recent times (HuffPost India entertainment editor Suprateek Chatterjee had some serious issues with his recently released thriller Raman Raghav 2.0), but as far as acting is concerned, he seems to be bang on the money.

Kashyap plays a corrupt police officer while the ever-reliable Konkona Sen Sharma seemingly plays the good cop.

Overall, the film ticks all the boxes of what you'd traditionally call a 'masala' film. However, at the same time, it also subverts the genre slightly by letting a woman take charge, kick ass, and mouth some badass lines. Sonakshi Sinha looks quite ferocious and it's nice to see her beating and saving people than playing the innocuous village belle.
