In an incident eerily reminiscent of a scene out of Udta Punjab, a teenaged boy in Punjab allegedly shot his mother dead after she refused to give him money to buy drugs. It took place earlier this week on Monday in Kot Dharmu village in Mansa district.

The 16-year-old allegedly took his father Kuldeep Singh's licensed gun and killed his mother, Kulwinder Kaur, reported IANS. Singh, who was not at home at the time of the incident, has filed a police complaint against his son. The boy was arrested yesterday.

Earlier this week, two young boys had died of a drug overdose in the same district in Punjab. Several such incidents have been reported from the area in the past.

The local police had arrested four alleged drug smugglers earlier this year, but this hasn't deterred drug smuggling in the area. This is despite "campaigns" by local authorities to curb the menace of drugs in Mansa.
