Where there is a will there is a way -- a 16-year-old girl from Jharkhand has proved this adage true yet again.
Meera Khoya began working at a construction site since she was eight, to make ends meet at home. Thanks to her efforts, on Tuesday, she was admitted to Nirmala College for girls – one of Ranchi's best institutions, reported NDTV.
“I am elated today. I want to thank everyone who has helped me and this is an opportunity that will help me realize my dreams,” Khoya was quoted as saying.
The Principal of Nirmala College, Jyoti Kispotta, said the college is proud to have a student like Meera on its rolls. “I want this girl to do very well," she said. "I am very proud we are getting a chance to help her fulfill her dreams.”
As people came to know of Khoya's struggles and her inspirational story, they pitched in with contributions, and she now has ₹3 lakh in her bank account.
Khoya, who cleared her Class 10 exams against all odds, had to drop her studies after her father died 12 years ago. She started working at construction sites and used to carry bricks for up to 12 hours each day. She managed to attend a small private school every alternate day to keep up with her studies.
To manage the family finances, Khoya's mother takes up any job that becomes available, while her brother teaches football to children to put himself through college.
Khoya aspires to become a police officer in the future.
