A former model was arrested by Mumbai Police on Saturday for allegedly running a prostitution racket from a flat in Andheri. They also rescued two women from the flat, news reports said.

The police got a tip off about a racket being run by the 23-year-old Rekha Vaishnav under the garb of operating a film production house that recruited aspiring actors.

Deven Bharti, the joint commissioner of Police (law and order); Satyanarayan Choudhary, deputy commissioner of police (zone IX); Kiran Kale, senior inspector Versova police and DS Patil, inspector raided the flat after a trap was laid to nab the culprits.

“The girls were brought from Gujarat and Delhi. Vaishnav prepared them for nude photo shoots, after which she sent the photos to customers via WhatsApp. When the customer chose the girl, Vaishnav decided the amount to be paid,” a police officer told Mid-Day.

“The arrested model has acted in few low budget movies as well, and she lured struggling models to her office by offering them roles in low budget movies, and after taking them into confidence, she trapped them in the prostitution racket,” DS Patil, police inspector from Versova police station told Mid-Day.

Two cops posed as customers and paid Rs 20,000 to have sex with two women. Once the transaction was being carried out, the culprit, who claimed she was a manager with a production house, was arrested on Saturday under Indian Penal Code section 370 (Buying or disposing of any person as a slave) and under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act (PITA).

Two women were rescued from the rented flat in the Mhada society that is owned by one Taj Mohammed.
