5 Awesome Tree Houses In India To Visit During The Monsoon

5 Awesome Tree Houses In India To Visit During The Monsoon
Airbnb/ Pepper Trail

For those who cherish memories of spending their childhood afternoons perched on the branch of a mango or peepal tree, this could be an ideal -- and safer -- vacation idea.

Tree houses no longer exist as exotic concepts in Enid Blyton books -- many have sprouted right here in our own backyard, from Goa to Manali to God's own Kerala.

We found these 5 secluded tree house properties on Airbnb that offer welcome respite from the hustle and bustle of cities. With the monsoon upon us, the experience can only get more blissfully dreamy. It doesn't hurt that travel is cheap during this time of the year.

Pepper Trail, Kerala

About 10 kilometres off of Sultan Bathery in Wayanad, you’ll find these beautiful tree houses that overlook a 140-year-old 200-acre spice and coffee plantation. A full 40 feet above the ground, the rooms have been built on giant jack-fruit trees offering a tranquil respite to travellers who love their privacy. Unlike the children’s version, these 770-square-feet minimally but pleasingly decorated rooms are huge and have giant attached bathrooms.

For those who like their feet firmly planted on the ground, but don’t want to miss out on the experience, the property also features a tree-house dining room, called The Pavilion.

The boutique resort also offers several forms of entertainment such as fishing, treks, and canoeing. Guests are also welcome to see for themselves century-old traditional farming methods that have been preserved by the plantation owners.

Treehouse Cottages, Manali

According to the proprietors of Tree House Cottages, this is the only tree house complex in Himachal Pradesh, making it ideal for those who love the hills, as well as tree houses. It certainly provides an ideal combination of modern amenities (WiFi and television) in the lap of nature.

Simple and cosy, the many windows built into the structure lend the cottage a romantic air. Guests can enjoy watching the mist roll across the mountains. The home stay also features a Swiss tent with a hammock, along with three regular rooms.

Marmalade Springs, Kerala

Situated at the foot of the Deccan Plateau, this boutique resort is built on Wayanad’s second highest peak. The rooms here have been built on interesting, if not slightly eccentric, bases, such as a rock, a pillar, and include a tree house that offers a majestic view of a coffee plantation.

Enjoy a romantic candle-lit dinner under the stars or quiet moments by a natural stream close by. One can also find diversion in safaris, cycling treks or get a taste of tribal customs at an old tribal colony situated close by.

If you like any furniture in the resort feel free to buy it. It has all been designed by the owner and is available for sale.

OmGravity Eco Resort, Goa

A 10-minute scooter ride from Agonda beach, OmGravity Eco Resort sits on the edge of the Karmal Ghat forest range in south Goa. Built with treated bamboos, the tree house and the resort itself is not for the traveller who enjoys his or her fripperies – it is simply decorated and has a common kitchen and fridge that is shared by all guests. One can trek to the Butterfly beach or indulge in some kayaking. The property also arranges for trips to Palolem and Gokarna.

Jaladarshini Farm House And Stay, Karnataka

Imagine waking up to the sounds of a gurgling river, accompanied by bird song and sunshine. All it will take is to book a stay at one of the two tree huts at Jaladarshini. This organic farmhouse cum home-stay, about 75 kilometres from Mysore, is situated on the banks of the river Hemavathi in the middle of a coconut grove.

Learn about organic cultivation, spend a moonlit evening by the river and enjoy simple vegetarian fare from this home stay’s bio-fuelled kitchen. However, equip yourself with plenty of mosquito repellent, and warm clothing if you’re travelling during the later months of the year.
