Robert Vadra has received the notice from the enforcement directorate on Wednesday, confirmed Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. In their notice, the enforcement directorate has sought explanation from Vadra on the land deals in Rajasthan.

"Apparently we received it (the notice) at 4 PM on Wednesday but you received it a day before," Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of congress president Sonia Gandhi told NDTV. She alleged that the news about the ED notice was leaked by the government to the media.

Robert Vadra, has been under fire for amassing land bank in Rajasthan and Haryana at throwaway prices when the Congress-led UPA government was in power for a decade up to May 2014. Several cases have been registered against Skylight Hospitality- Vadra’s firm that was used to purchase these lands.

Though Vadra’s mother-in-law Sonia Gandhi and brother-in-law Rahul Gandhi have maintained that Vadra is being targeted by the BJP-led government owing to political vendetta, the current government has not been able to make a conclusive case against Vadra.

Vadra’s firm is accused of buying 70 acres of land in Rajasthan’s Bikaner district for a paltry sum of Rs 70 lakh in 2010 when the Congress was ruling the state. The land that was acquired from farmers, convincing them that it was to be used to build a firing range for army, was later sold for a whopping Rs 5 crore by Skylight to another buyer, thus pocketing a neat profit.

After the BJP government replaced the Congress in the state, it claimed the land was first grabbed by local goons and was then sold with ‘forged and fabricated documents’. The government also alleged that some senior state bureaucrats and top officials were also involved in the scam.
