Moto G4 To Go On Sale In India On June 22

Motorola's Moto G4 phone will be available for purchase online from 22 June. The phone maker had announced the launch of two new phones in their G series, Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus in May. While Moto G4 Plus was available for sale right away, Moto G4 was slotted for sale later.

Moto G4 is expected to be priced in the ₹10000-12000 range so that it take on competing models in the market. This would be less than the two variants of Moto G4 Plus -- the 2 GB RAM/16 GB internal memory variant costs ₹13499, whereas the 3 GB RAM/32 GB internal memory variant costs ₹14999.

Naturally, Moto G4 Plus costs more because it has a couple of features that the G4 doesn't -- a 16 MP rear camera and a front-facing fingerprint sensor. It also has built-in VoLTE (Voice over LTE) capabilities, besides turbocharging facility for the 3000 mAh battery.

Moto G4 doesn't have the option of increasing memory. It faces strong competition from models such as Samsung Galaxy J3, Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 2 and Lenovo Zuk Z1, which are all in the ₹8000-12000 range. But if a phone buyer's budget is more than ₹12000, they are likely to opt for something like Moto G4 Plus.

Looks like Motorola has changed their sales strategy, because after selling phones online for a couple years exclusively on the Flipkart retail website, they have chosen Amazon as their platform this year.

Recently, Motorola also launched their first modular phones, the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. The phone maker has confirmed that both models will be available in India by October. There has also been some talk of launching another Moto Z model, called Moto Z Play. Motorola must be keen on making the most of the expanding Indian smartphone market.
