OnePlus

OnePlus unveiled their newest flagship phone OnePlus 3 today in a virtual reality launch worldwide. The launch required the user to download the app and collect the badges to get to OnePlus 3. The phone is priced at ₹27999 in India. This is a big step for the company as the OnePlus 3 is the first phone to be available invite free.

Specifications

As a brand, OnePlus has concentrated on high-end specifications. Confirming all the previous leaks OnePlus 3 sports a Snapdragon 820 processor. The phone has a 6 GB RAM and internal memory options that range from 64 GB with no microSD card expansion option given.

Soaking in the full metal glory the phone has a 5.5 inch full HD screen. The phone has 16 MP rear camera with a Sony sensor and recording 4K capabilities. The camera also has Optical Image Stabilization and an aperture of f/2.0. The front camera is of 8MP and uses a Sony sensor too.

OnePlus 3 has a 3000 mAh battery with Dash charging. This will allow the phone to be charged with a 2A adapter supplied with the phone. It means that in almost 1.5 hours the phone will be charged fully. The Dash charging allows the phone to be charged rapidly till 60% in half an hour.

The phone will be running Android Marshmallow 6.1 and it will have Oxygen OS customization and launcher on top of that. Older phones of OnePlus recently got Marshmallow updates, so it would be necessary for the company to concentrate on the software efforts this time and provide faster updates.

Availability and competiton

OnePlus has ditched the invite system for good this time and the phone will be available openly. The sale has already started on Amazon India. The company will also open experience stores in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru for customers to check the phone out in the flesh.

This price point is an intriguing choice from OnePlus. At ₹27999, very few phones would be falling into the category of OnePlus 3. In India, the company is offering three subscription offers. OnePlus 3 users would get 12 months of Saavn pro and Oneplus 'accidental care' free. Idea users would also get to use double data for a year. Amazon is also offering Kindle eBooks worth ₹500.

Mi 5 is the most likely competitor of the phone. OnePlus 3 would be an ideal choice for someone who would want a top end hardware experience of a flagship but wouldn't be investing in a Samsung, an LG or a Nexus.
