The much anticipated launch of the OnePlus3 smartphone happens today. The smartphone maker OnePlus will launch the phone 'virtually' and on the company website. The 'virtual' launch, which can be attended via a VR headset that has already been distributed to about 30,000 people, begins at 10 PM IST. The sale of the OnePlus3 smartphone will commence from 12:30 AM IST on the Amazon retail website.

Specifications

As a brand, OnePlus has concentrated on specifications. And, in keeping with this, OnePlus 3 will likely have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor. In all likelihood, there will be six versions the phone -- with 6 GB or 4 GB RAM, and internal memory options that range from 32 GB, 64 GB, to 128 GB.

In addition, the smartphone will reportedly come with a 5.5-inch full HD display, a 16 MP rear sensor camera and an 8 MP front camera. It is also expected that the phone will come with a 3500 mAh battery.

The launch

With today's launch, OnePlus has decided to do away with invitation-only launches. The company gave away free Loop VR headsets to all those who had registered for the event.

After the launch, the phone will be available on the Amazon website exclusively. According to a listing on the Indian import website Zauba, the price of the phone is ₹ 22800. An Ad in the newspaper revealed that the price of the phone is ₹ 27999

Over time, OnePlus has managed to create quite a buzz around their smartphones in India, and that explains the build up of anticipation around their latest offering. But it remains to be seen how OnePlus3, with its Oxygen powered OS, will hold up against competing models such as Xiaomi Mi 5's MIUI and NextBIt Robin's stock Android.
