Last week, media outlets went into a tizzy over an unverified story that said Aamir Khan will be seen in a crucial role in the second season of the Indian adaptation of 24, which airs on Colors.

The result was something like this.

A DNA report said, “Talks are on and Aamir has shown interest, but the perfectionist that he is, he will thoroughly review each aspect before making a commitment. If time permits and he takes it up, the show will become even bigger."

Speaking to The Huffington Post, Anil Kapoor dismissed the reports saying, "One must understand that this is not a show where you cannot randomly introduce a character. A lot of pre-planning goes and we work on a bound script with no scope for a surprise character to be introduced."

He added, "Shows like Friends, or say reality shows can have a guest appearance as they're fun to do. But a show like 24 is content-driven and doesn't give you any room for fluff stuff, like item numbers. Nobody can just walk in unless there is a specific role for them."

When we probed him on how the news started doing the rounds, he clarified, "He's a dear friend of mine and the show's director Abhinay Deo [Khan had produced Deo's Delhi Belly]. He's coming to the launch of our show as a goodwill gesture. He's followed the first season closely and was quite impressed. So we felt it'd be great if he could be a part of the launch."

Is he trying to build up the mystery to ensure Aamir's cameo remains spoiler-free? "No, rest assured that he won't be seen in the show. There's really nothing more to it," Kapoor concluded.
