The Only High That New Sony Xperia Phones Deliver Is The Price

The electronics giant Sony, which has been struggling to establish a secure foothold in the smartphone industry, launched two new phones in its Xperia series, called Sony Xperia X and XA. However, it appears that the company has missed the spot yet again in its pricing strategy. Both phones have mid-range specs but they are priced very high.

Xperia X is available for ₹ 48990 which puts it in direct competition with phones such as the Samsung Galaxy S7. While the phone sports a premium look, it does not have enough features on the sheet to lure the consumer who can choose from many other options available in the market.

Sony has said that the centerpiece of the smartphone is the 23 MP rear camera. And, while Xperia X does have some additional great features such as 60 fps (frames per second) video recording and predictive hybrid auto-focus, the lack of burst mode and 4K recording will tend to work against it. The phone has an impressive 13 MP front camera, but that alone cannot be a big winning point against competing phones.

The phone's other specs include Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 SoC, as well as 3GB of RAM, and a 64GB internal memory, features that are now standard even in phones priced at ₹10000.

On the other hand, Xperia XA has two variants, Xperia XA Dual and Xperia XA Ultra. The Dual variant is priced at ₹20990.

Xperia XA has a 5-inch 720p display, MediaTek Helio P10 processor, 2GB RAM, and 16GB storage with microSD. These specs are sub-par for a phone of this price, considering that it will compete with the very handsome NextBit Robin and the upcoming Oneplus 3, both of which will be offering much more in terms of features and specs.

Sony's strategy on its smartphones is still unclear, as the business today is all about launching phones with great specifications and features at the lowest price possible. They have streamlined their smartphone operations by deciding to merge all their models under the Xperia X line but their losses are piling up and their phones are priced too high.
