SHIMLA -- The grand nephew of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh was today killed in a road accident at Manglad near Rampur Bushahr district.

27-year-old Abhitej Singh, an alumnus of Lawrence School, Sanawar, was riding a motorcycle on his way back home from Kaza in Spiti. He was being followed by his two friends, Gurpal Singh and Abhitesh, in a car. The motorcycle lost grip on a wet road, police said.

Abhitej suffered serious injuries in the head and ribs and was rushed to the civil hospital in Rampur, where he succumbed to wounds, they said.

His father Abhay Sandhu, a resident of Mohali, said Abhitej was the only son in the family.

The body was handed over to the family after postmortem.

His last rites will be performed in Mohali tomorrow.
