A 23-year-old man died of electrocution on Sunday while working on his laptop at his residence in Delhi’s Tughlaqabad area.
Family members of the deceased, identified as one Brijesh Kumar told The Times of India that he had plugged in the laptop's charger minutes before he was electrocuted.
Kumar's wife found him lying unconscious and rushed him to the Majeedia Hospital in Tughlakabad, where doctors declared him dead.
"Brijesh's body has been sent for postmortem examination and the exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained. No complaint has been received or case registered in connection with the incident so far," a police official told PTI. "At this point, it can't be said that the laptop caused the death. It is also possible that Brijesh came in contact with the extension wire, leading to the electrocution," he added.
Brijesh's wife Vinita was in shock and unable to make an official statement, he added.
A team was sent to Brijesh's residence where a thorough inspection was conducted. The police has sent the laptop to a forensic laboratory.
Brijesh and Vinita were married in February this year and lived with Brijesh's parents in a rented house in Tughlaqabad Extension, reported Hindustan Times.
In a similar incident in November 2011, a 34-year-old man died of electrocution after he had dozed off with the charger connected to his laptop, and headphones plugged in his ears.
