New Delhi--A 23-year-old African national was beaten to death in Delhi's Vasant Kunj area late on Friday night.
Masonda Ketanda Olivier, reportedly from Congo, had come to Kishangarh in Vasant Kunj for some work when he got into an argument with three to four persons. The argument later led to a violent fight, after which the African youth was chased and beaten with stones.
When the police reached the spot to rescue the youth, they found him wounded and bleeding. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to injuries.
The police have launched a probe into the matter and are trying to ascertain the motive behind the attack.
The cops are also looking for any CCTVs that might have recorded the brutal act.
A report on The Indian Express says, "Olivier taught foreign languages at a private institute here. He lived in South Extension area. Why he had gone to Kishangarh at that hour has also not been ascertained yet, police said."
Africans in Delhi are no stranger to vicious attacks from locals. In March this year, a mob barged into a Nigerian man's house in Dwarka and beat him up with hockey sticks and cricket bats. Evwrirhe Isaac, a football coach, who has been living in Delhi for years had gone to the market to buy grocery two days before Holi. A boy on the street pelted a water balloon at him. Isaac scolded the boy and then led him to a shop nearby, asking him for wait there for his family to come and fetch him.
However, the shopkeeper told the boy's brothers about the incident, following which young men broke into Isaac's house and beat him and his flatmate up brutally. Isaac told the media back then that he was lucky to have escaped alive, there was a fair chance that he may not have.
In February this year, a Tanzanian woman was stripped and beaten up by a mob in Bangalore. The mob took out their anger aimed at another African national, who had allegedly run a local over, on the student who happened to pass by when they were protesting.
