NEW DELHI -- The special cell of the Delhi Police arrested Amit Jani last night, the Uttar Pradesh Navnirman Sena chief, who had threatened to kill Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) president Kanhaiya Kumar and research scholar Umar Khalid.

On 14 April, the Delhi Police had recovered a bag full of weapons and a letter threatening Kanhaiya and Khalid was discovered in a Delhi Transport Corporation bus at the JNU campus.

Jani allegedly kept those weapons and the letter in the bus and his signature was found in the letter as well.

The UP Navnirman Sena chief had, however, claimed that the country-made pistol found on the bus was meant to be used to kill All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leader and Member of Parliament Asaduddin Owaisi.

Ever since the Delhi Police recovered the weapon and cartridges, Jani has been updating the media on the progress in the case and the investigations. Besides, he has also been regularly issuing statements declaring his intent.
