A joy ride at a theme park in Chennai ended on a tragic note as one person died and at least nine others were injured.

Jose Punnoose, 58, the proprietor of Kishkinta theme park and D. Sakthivelan, 43, HR manager have been arrested on charges that include criminal negligence that resulted in death.

On Wednesday evening, when the theme park closed for the day, staff of the Kishkinta Theme Park were made to sit for a trial run on a joy ride known as Disco Dancer, a revolving merry-go-round.

A video captures them cheering with joy.

Moments after, the coaches of the giant wheel - like a mega tea cup that tilts from one side to the other - comes crashing down from a height of nearly 15 feet.

The district administration had also ordered an inquiry by Sriperumbadur tashildar into the fatal mishap.

“Based on an order from the district collector, I went to the theme park and inspected the scene of accident. I could not interact with the owner and HR manager because police were questioning them. I could not trace the site engineer also. I was told that he was missing since the accident happened,” the tashildar told Deccan Chronicle.

Meanwhile, angry relatives of the injured, most of whom hail from villages in and around the theme park, accused that the theme park officials forced the staff to sit in trial runs.
