Swipe Right: The Cutest Love Haikus From Indians On Tinder

Gone are the days of ritualized courtships and long odes to love. In keeping with its own simple approach to dating and hook-ups, Tinder recently used the occasion of International Haiku Day to encourage people to express their thoughts on love and dating in the form of haikus—Japanese-style condensed poetry.

The Indian arm of the popular dating app collaborated with HaikuJAM, a London-based creative social network (founded by three Economics students) that encourages people to try their hand at writing micro-poems.

The two-day campaign that commenced on 16 April saw some fantastic results globally, and in India: There was a global outreach of 8.6 million people and 9 million impressions, while 8,279 lines and photos were submitted, along with 2,591 haikus from the sub-continent itself. “The most popular themes were Someone New, When We Met, First Dates and Moments, while the most popular words were Love, Eyes, Heart, Life, Time,” shared HaikuJAM’s 24-year old CEO, Dhrupad Karwa.

“Poetry is the language of love and this partnership was a great opportunity for us to bring together haiku lovers to express themselves in their own unique style,” said Taru Kapoor, head of Tinder India in a press statement.
