NEW DELHI -- Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has said that the only way to beat the Bharatiya Janata Party in the next Lok Sabha election is for the all other parties to come together.
The Indian Express today reported on his remarks made at the Advantage Conclave 2016 in Patna on Saturday.
“Loktantra khatre mein hai, sabhi gair BJP parties ko ek saath aana hoga unhe harane ke liye. Alag alag ladne se baat nahi banegi (Democracy is in danger. Non-BJP will have to unite to defeat the party. Fighting separately won't work)," Kumar said.
"Lohia had made a non-Congress platform, now all parties have to unite against the BJP," he said.
Kumar said that he wasn't "against any individual," but he went on to criticize Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not fulfilling the promises he made in the national election in 2014.
“So many promises were made during the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign. Was black money brought back? Did a poor man get Rs 15 lakh in his bank account? People also tried to mock the seven resolutions I made during the 2015 assembly poll campaign. But I have fulfilled the first big promise by enforcing a total ban on liquor in Bihar. One by one, I will fulfil the rest," he said.
Kumar said that veteran leaders of the party - Atal Bihari Vajpayee, L.K. Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi - had been sidelined, "but the power has gone to people who have no faith in secularism and communal harmony."
