Tamil TV Actor Prashanth Commits Suicide, Depression Cited As Reason

Noted Tamil television actor Sai Prashanth was found dead at his residence in Chennai on Sunday.

The actor, who went by the stage name Prashanth, allegedly committed suicide, says a report in The New Indian Express.

"The reason behind the suicide is not clear. We think it could be loneliness," a police official told IANS.

The police added that Prashanth mixed poison in his drink.

Known for his extensive work in Tamil television series such as Selvi, Annamalai and Arasi, among others, Prashanth was reportedly suffering from depression. He had divorced his first wife and had re-married just three months ago.

His work in Tamil cinema includes films such as, Mundhinam Paar-theney (2010), Neram (2013), Thegidi (2014) and Vadacurry (2014), among others.

Now, the actor's body has been taken to Kilpauk Medical College for post-mortem and his family has been informed.

Prashanth's mother Lalitha S Subash is a former vice-president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP and was a member of the Central Board of Film Certification.
