One of the biggest debates among football fans across the globe has always been about who's a better player: Is it Barcelona's Lionel Messi or Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo?

On Sunday morning, one such argument turned fatal after a Nigerian man killed his friend in a Mumbai suburb.

The two men, with their group of friends had gathered in Nallasopara to celebrate Obinna Michael Durumchukwu's 34th birthday on Saturday night.

Michael Nwabu Chukwuma, a 22-year-old Nigerian had an argument with 34-year-old friend--Obinna Durumchukwu, also from Nigeria, over Messi and Ronaldo which soon turned into a bloody brawl.

According to reports, Chukwuma grabbed an empty beer bottle and threw it at Durumchukwu. However, he missed the shot and the bottle smashed against the wall.

Chukwuma picked up a broken piece of glass and jabbed it into Durumchukwu's throat.

On hearing the commotion, the flat owner woke up and saw Durumchukwu lying in a pool of blood.

The flat owner then called the police and the hospital, but it was too late, reports NDTV.

"The fight which started from football debate ended up with a murder," Kiran Kabadi, police inspector, Tulinj police station told DNA.

The Tulinj police arrived at the spot, arrested Nwabu and sent the body for postmortem. "He surrendered without resistance. He was charged with murder and will be produced in a Vasai court on Monday," said Kabadi.
