BJP's OP Sharma Faces Expulsion From Delhi Assembly For Sexist Slurs Against AAP's Alka Lamba

BJP's OP Sharma Faces Expulsion From Delhi Assembly For Sexist Slurs

BJP MLA Om Prakash Sharma, who was recently caught in the act of thrashing a Communist Party of India (CPI) minority wing leader outside a Delhi court and then brazenly defending his actions, seems to be in more trouble.

Now, a nine-member ethics committee of the Delhi Assembly has recommended that Sharma be expelled in connection with last year’s verbal attack on AAP’s Alka Lamba, reported Zee News.

Last year, Lamba had registered a complaint against Sharma for using objectionable language and for orchestrating an attack on her while she was conducting an anti-drug drive.

Sharma had reportedly called her a ”drug addict” and a “bazaaru aurat (fallen woman).

The ethics committee has reportedly found Sharma a habitual offender. According to a report in India Today, the committee had recommended to the Speaker that Sharma be expelled from the House. Apparently, Sharma had been given several opportunities to explain his actions and to apologize to Lamba, but he failed to do so.

In August, Sharma had unleashed a torrent of defamatory statements against Lamba.

"People have said that Lamba is spotted here in the wee hours of the night and I don't think a person who supports drug eradication would come there at that time, between 1am and 4pm," Sharma said, PTI had reported.

"It apparently shows she is an addict herself. I am not giving any anti-women remark. I respect women but if you try to portray Phoolan Devi as a mascot of women power then it won't work. She is a drug addict who under the effect of drugs had turned violent," Sharma had said.

He later insisted he had done no wrong.

"I never abused Alka Lamba. AAP is free to file an FIR against me. In fact, it was Lamba who tried to slap me and abused me. CCTV footage will reveal the truth," Sharma had told India Today in a television interview.
