The police in Chhattisgarh recently arrested a trespasser for rampaging in a senior bureaucrat’s lawn, later releasing the culprit on bail. The miscreant, a serial offender, also happens to be a goat.

Its owner Abdul Hassan also had to pay for the goat’s crimes and was arrested and booked under charges that carry a two to seven year prison term and a fine.

The goat, whose name remains unknown, was picked up by the police along with Hassan in Korea, about 350km from the state capital Raipur, following a complaint made by district magistrate Hemant Ratre’s gardener. They were booked in a case under Sections 447 and 427.

This isn’t the first time that this goat has made short work of the magistrate’s plants and vegetables. The gardener had complained about the animal to its owner many times, but to little avail. The goat continued to jump over the iron gate of the district magistrate’s bungalow to break in and enter the garden.

“The bungalow has an iron gate and the goat used to jump over it and enter,” said Assistant Sub Inspector R P Srivastava. "The peon who maintains the garden had warned the owner of the goat many times. So today he filed a complaint and we arrested the goat and its owner," he added.

The stubborn goat’s list of illegal activities include grazing in the garden and eating plants and vegetables. Its owner says that the lawless animal was taken to the police station from the scene of the crime.

"She had grazed on flowers and vegetables from the garden. They brought me to the police station today and told me to take the goat," Hassan told ANI.
