Randeep Hooda has often been praised for the commitment he gives to his roles. But for Omung Kumar's upcoming film, it seems like he's gone the extra mile — à la Christian Bale in The Machinist (2004).

Playing the role of Sarabjit Singh, the Indian national who was accused by Pakistan of being a spy and incarcerated for 23 years before dying in Lahore, the 39-year-old actor has lost 18 kg in 28 days, reported Mumbai Mirror.

This is what he looks like now, as per an image published along with the report.

According to the article, Hooda has achieved this look by going on a "starvation diet", closely supervised by a doctor and his sister. Kumar has reportedly said that, on day one of the shoot, the actor's transformation was so drastic that the director couldn't recognise him.

"He cut down on his meals, filling up on coffee and water, even when we were shooting in Palghar and gorging on some great food," Kumar told Mirror. "In his years in jail, Sarabjit was kept in a 4 x 4 room and had rat bites all over him. The first time I met Randeep, I told him that I wanted to see his bones. He took up the challenge and shocked even me."
