On Republic Day, fans of veteran Indian actor Kamal Haasan were in for a treat, as the multifaceted Tamil star, known for films such as Nayakan, (1987) Moondram Pirai, (1982) Indian (1996), and Hey Ram, (2000) finally joined Twitter as @ikamalhaasan.

As his first tweet, Haasan shared a video of the National Anthem sung by him, to much approval from his fans on the micro-blogging website. His first tweet, shared on Tuesday, got more than 2,500 retweets and 3,500 likes.

Shruti Haasan, his daughter, welcomed him on board:

According to earlier reports, Haasan may soon be acting with his daughter in an yet-untitled film with will be directed by veteran Malayalam filmmaker T Rajeev Kumar, who made his directorial debut starring the former in 1989 with Chanakyan.

As of now, Haasan has already more than 30,000 followers on Twitter.
