Veteran danseuse Mrinalini Sarabhai passed away at her Ahmedabad home on Thursday morning at the age of 98. A trained Bharatanatyam, Kathakali and Mohiniattam dancer, the Padma Bhushan awardee had also studied at the renowned Shantiniketan university under Rabindranath Tagore's tutelage.

"My mother Mrinalini Sarabhai has just left for her eternal dance," her daughter and noted classical Indian dancer Mallika Sarabhai wrote in a touching Facebook post. Sarabhai is survived by her daughter, son (Kartikeya Sarabhai), four grand-children and three great-grandchildren.

In 1984, Sarabhai set up an institute of dance in Ahmedabad, where she trained many dancers and choreographers, and established an immortal niche in the classical performing arts industry.
