NEW YORK -- India's new Permanent Representative to the UN Syed Akbaruddin met his Pakistani counterpart Maleeha Lodhi and they had a "useful discussion."

"The new Indian PR to the UN, Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin called on me today. We had a very useful discussion," Lodhi tweeted yesterday.

The Pakistani envoy also tweeted a photograph of her meeting with Akbaruddin in the premises of the Pakistani mission to the UN.

Akbaruddin, who succeeded Ambassador Asoke Mukerji, took charge at the Permanent Mission of India here last week.

Prior to being appointed India's envoy to the UN, he was the Chief Coordinator of the India-Africa Forum Summit held in October 2015 in New Delhi.
