ALLAHABAD -- The Allahabad High Court today issued contempt notice to the Director of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad, (IIIT-A) for non-compliance of an order whereby termination of services of a number of faculty members had been set aside.

Justice Surya Prakash Kesarwani issued notice to Somnath Biswas, the Director of IIIT-A, noting that "prima facie it appears that the aforesaid order of the court has been flouted" and fixed March 16 as the next date of hearing in the matter.

The order was passed on the contempt petition filed by Saurabh Mishra, one of the faculty members whose appointments had been cancelled by the Institute in 2014.

The petitioners had claimed that in pursuance of the order passed by a division bench on December 12, 2015, he "should have been reinstated automatically" but the Director was neither allowing him to resume duty nor was he being paid any salary.

In the December 12 order, the court had set aside the termination of services of the faculty members - effected in the year 2014 - terming the exercise as "vitiated" but left it open to the Board of Directors of the Institute "to take a fresh decision as may be permissible" within three months after granting opportunity of hearing to the petitioners.
