Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Warangal visit left several heart patients in a lurch. An elaborate celebration organised in his honour resulted in road blockades, which in turn held up traffic. Some patients complained that they had to walk at least a kilometre to reach the district's only specialty cardiac care hospital, said a Times of India report.

Some roads were blocked from 9am to 3.30 pm, making lives of cardiac patients miserable. According to the report, a 76-year-old retired postal department employee and a 73-year-old photographer had no option but to leave their cars behind and walk to the hospital, thanks to the lunch hosted by Legislative Council Member Konda Murali and his wife Konda Sureka at their residence. The Konda residence is near the Srinivasa Heart Centre at Ramnagar. The lunch was being held to conclude the CM’s three-day visit to Warangal.

“I wanted to argue with the police when they stopped our car while taking my 76-year-old grandfather to the hospital. He was suffering from chest pain on Wednesday morning, and urgently needed medical attention,” a Telangana resident told the paper.

The young man’s grandfather was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation, characterised by irregular heartbeats and chest pain. A consultant cardiologist with the hospital, who was also interviewed, claimed that this condition, if not treated on time could lead to a paralytic attack or cardiac arrest.
