MUMBAI -- Anil Kapoor is so impressed by his nephew Ranveer Singh's performance in Bajirao Mastani that the superstar has compared his stint with Hollywood actor Russell Crowe's in Oscar-winning film Gladiator (2000).

Anil said Ranveer's role as a Peshwa in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali-directed period drama was his best work of his career so far.

"India's answer to @russellcrowe from gladiator @RanveerOfficial!," he posted on Twitter.

Ranveer, who shared screen space with Anil in Zoya Akhtar's Dil Dhadakne Do, too thanked his uncle for his kind words.

"Thanks AK! Was hoping I could make you proud. Great seeing you last night... Congrats on winning the award for DDD!," Ranveer tweeted.

Gladiator, an epic historical drama, starred Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix, Connie Nielsen, Ralf M ller, Oliver Reed and Djimon Hounsou in prominent roles. The 2000 film was directed by Ridley Scott.
