The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Wednesday, filed a chargesheet in the 2013 Jiah Khan suicide case. The chargesheet has been filed in a special CBI court in Mumbai.

The case was transferred to the CBI in July last year following the orders of the Bombay High Court which had directed the agency to probe whether the death was a suicide or homicide on the plea of Jiah’s mother Rabia.

CBI spokesperson Kanchan Prasad has been quoted as saying the following:

The High Court has directed the CBI to consider whether this is a case of suicidal or homicidal death. If it comes to a conclusion that it is a homicidal death, then further probe be made to find out who is the perpetrator of the crime and accordingly action be taken.

The 25-year-old British-American actor, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her home in Juhu on June 3, 2013. According to Jiah’s mother Sooraj Pancholi, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zareena Wahab was in relation with the actor. She requested a probe into the death of her daughter. She alleged that it was not suicide. Her relationship with actor Sooraj Pancholi was said to be under strain and it was suspected that it drove her to end her life.

Meanwhile, special public prosecutor Dinesh Tiwari today expressed surprise at CBI's move.

"I was never informed about the charge sheet and the conclusion that the agency had arrived at," Tiwari told PTI.

Tiwari, who had also appeared for Jiah's mother Rabiya, said that he will oppose the charge sheet if CBI concludes the death as a suicide.
