The Delhi government has proposed a rather drastic plan of allowing cars with odd and even numbered plates on alternate days to improve the city's air quality and check pollution. But the odd-even formula has split social media into two camps -- with critics and supporters trending #DelhiOddEvenLogic and #ISupportDelhiOddEven at the same time.
The last digit of the number mentioned on the vehicle’s number plate will be the deciding digit. So, if Monday is for even numbers, Tuesday will be for odd numbers. The rule is based on the Beijing model, where it was introduced in 2008, ahead of the Olympic Games. But when have social media users accepted anything at face value? The plan is being debated spiritedly with some even calling it 'absurd'. And the jokes are flowing freely of course.
#DelhiOddEvenLogic for vehicles is one of the most absurd measures I have heard in recent times. It just puts more hardship to common man.— Tinu Cherian Abraham (@tinucherian) December 5, 2015
