Dogs In Flood-Hit Chennai Find A Safe 'Hotel' In Bengaluru, Thanks To This Group Of People
Hotel For Dogs

Last week, in Chennai, while many were opening their doors to people struggling to find shelter, a group of young people were busy rescuing the dogs, and moving them to another city altogether.

A few lucky canines found a safe home in Bengaluru, thanks to the efforts of--Hotel For Dogs--a dog boarding facilities provider.

"Two weeks back, when the heavy rains began, our 'hotel for dogs' in Chennai was completely flooded," said T A Adhishwar, one of the owners of the dog boarding facility.

Adhishwar along with the dog hostel's Chennai managers Selva, Ranjith and others evacuated around 40 dogs from there and brought them to Bengaluru- the other hostel that they have recently started.

Adhishwar started 'Hotel for Dogs' along with his friend Shravan Krishnan. Both of them recently graduated from Loyola College, Chennai.

'Hotel for dogs' is a boarding house for dogs in Chennai. The dogs in the 'hotel' are provided grooming facility and a big space to run around and play.

The rescued dogs were kept in the Bengaluru facility for a while. When the rains stopped, they moved them back to Chennai and returned them to their owners.

However, in a couple of days, when things started getting worse for Chennai, many dog owners started calling them.

"We started getting distress calls from worried dog owners seeking help for their pets when the situation got really bad in Chennai. They all wanted us to transport the dogs," said Adhishwar.

"The dog owners said they are going to their neighbours or their relative's house, but cannot take their dogs with them," he added.

As the rains keep pouring and our city is slowly sinking. We have been getting a lot distress calls from dog owners...

So, the group braving the rains and the flood, took out their four cars-- a Mercedes, a Scorpio, one Maruti Eco and a Maruti Dzire and managed to transport around 28 dogs to their Bengaluru facility.

The Hotel for Dogs group plans to move another 10-15 dogs to their Bengaluru facility tomorrow.

"When the situation gets better and the owners are ready to take their dogs back, we will return them," Adhishwar said.

The group didn't charge a single penny for all the transportation or the stay of the dogs.

But, what is even more heartwarming in all of this is the comments that people are posting on the group's Facebook page.

"If you need a place to board the dogs once they get to Bangalore, I can take in 2-3. I already have a dog, and they'll be in friendly company," Bharat Rameshwar said in his comment to one of the post.

Another comment from Naveen B R Nav said, "Am ready to accept few dogs if they r homeless N need a loving house..please don't hesitate. I know there situation..my number 08105575534."

"Hi guys I can take in two small dogs if u need a place for da dogs... I can hold them till every thing gets better... I ve space on my terrace its a covered place n I ve a dog too so no worries 9663768246 is my no contact me if needed," wrote Sindhu Neelavarman.

Many people from both Chennai and Bengaluru are now opening their doors to the rescued dogs.
