To mark World Disability Day on December 3, the Indian arm of cab service, Uber, will be launching a specialised service, titled uberASSIST to provide transport assistance to the differently abled and elderly riders.

The service already exists in other parts of the world. However, it shall make its debut tomorrow in the capital, and is gradually expected to extend to other parts of the country as well.

In collaboration with iCare life, the company has been training its team of drivers to assist riders with different accessibility needs. This includes boarding or deboarding a vehicle, folding and storage of wheelchairs, walkers, scooters and other means of support, in addition to visible and invisible disability awareness, and specialised training in communication to effectively interact with the riders.

To avail the service, type ASSISTDEL in the promotions tab on the Uber mobile ap. This will unlock the uberASSIST service. Select the option that will appear above the slider, and then continue using the app as normal.
