It's safe to say that the anticipation for the Dilwale trailer has been higher than that for any other film this year.

Breathless fans finally got to see a glimpse of Rohit Shetty's upcoming film — starring Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Varun Dhawan, and Kriti Sanon — as a three-minute trailer was released late on Monday evening.

Khan is shown in two avatars — one, as a sub-machine-gun-toting badass; another as a sober, bearded, and older man who is thought to be "kuchh zyaada hi seedhe aur sharif" by Sanon's character.

Kajol, who is also shown to be playing her character at different ages, looks stunning and, frankly, not a day older than our strongest memories of her from the '90s.

Since this is a Rohit Shetty film, there are plenty of car-related stunts, leading to the destruction of at least two in the trailer itself. Some of the shots (locations included Bulgaria and Iceland) look pretty stunning, if a tad over-saturated, while some VFX shots look pretty tacky at first glance. Aside from that, there's a hint of pretty lame slapstick humour (involving Johnny Lever, Boman Irani, and Sanjay Mishra) that makes this trailer feel extremely dated. Oh, and to make matters worse, they've straight-up ripped off that classic drifting-in-sports-convertibles scene from Mission: Impossible 2.

Gah. I mean, come on, we live in a post-Baahubali-and-Bajrangi Bhaijaan-world, guys — 'same old, same old' just doesn't cut it anymore.

On the plus side, however, Kajol looks like a million bucks and Khan and her still have enough of that famous spark that's likely to give viewers heebie-jeebies of the good kind.

Dilwale releases in theatres on December 18. Watch the trailer above.
