PATNA, INDIA - AUGUST 30: Congress President Sonia Gandhi with Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD Chief Lalu Prasad during the Swabhiman rally at Gandhi Maidan, on August 30, 2015 in Patna, India. Gandhi attacked Modi on national level issues - his 'failure' to provide jobs to the youth, his 'anti-farmer' land bill, which he is now set to withdraw under Opposition from the Congress and the 'communal' agenda of the ruling BJP. Counting is about to get underway in the long drawn out and fiercely contested Bihar assembly elections, the outcome of which will have repercussions for key figures in national politics.

The leads will start coming in at 8am and the trends will be known within a few hours. In the case of a neck and neck race, as exit poll figures have predicted it to be, India might have to wait a wee bit longer to see whether the Bihar voter's mandate has gone to the coalition of erstwhile rivals Lalu Prasad and Nitish Kumar, with a weakened Indian National Congress thrown in the mix, or the resurgent might of the Bhartiya Janata Party, which has never formed the government in the state, but unleashed an intensive high-voltage campaign led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
