Crime sometimes runs in the family. Police in Mumbai have arrested a constable who allegedly planted a bomb on a colleague's motorbike that killed him. According to the Times of India, the 45-year-old head constable, Prahlad Patil was arrested by the Raigad district police on Thursday for killing a 28-year-old constable, Nitesh Patil, by planting a bomb on his motorcycle. "The murder was prima facie because of a personal grudge over an illicit relationship," said Raigad superintendent of police Mohd Suvez Haque, " We are probing the case following the arrest of the accused."
Police sources told TOI that Prahlad and Nitesh--both married-- frequently fought and mostly over Nitesh's alleged "proximity" to a lady constable at the police station. Raigad police spokesperson Arvind Patil said Nitesh was at the Alibaug police headquarters for a monthly refresher course. He was kickstarting his Honda Unicorn bike around 12.20pm while another cop, Ranjit Nage of MIDC Mahad police station, was around. Nage suffered minor injuries but Nitesh's right leg was severely injured and he eventually died in hospital. The accused has reportedly confessed to his role in the crime.
