NEW DELHI -- A woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold valuing about Rs 25 lakh at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.

The accused, who hails from Amritsar, was intercepted by customs officials after her arrival from Dubai on Saturday.

She had worn the gold on both wrists and covered it under full sleeves of the suit worn by her. She had attempted to clear the gold weighing one kg clandestinely out of the airport without declaring it, a release issued today by the customs said.

The value of the gold, which was seized by the customs, is assessed to be Rs 24.95 lakh, it said, adding that the passenger has been arrested.
