A day after the Indian cricket team was handed out one of its worst defeats, team director Ravi Shastri sought to blame the pitch curator and Dhoni described his team-mates fielding as the 'worst.'

Zee News reports that team director Ravi Shastri described the pitch as a 'Great wicket' followed by an expletive when he crossed paths with the curator Sudhir Naik.

“Don’t teach me about the wicket, I have also played for India,” was a miffed Naik's reply according to the same report. Naik added that he intended to complain to the BCCI about Shastri's remarks.

Separately, Dhoni seemed less upset about India's loss and more about the performance of his team-mates.

"As far as fielding is concerned, it was one of the worst I have seen in my career. Yes, we dropped few catches, we bowled too short at the start, but I think up to 20-25 overs we were in control. Later on, they (South Africa) started to accelerate. And 439 runs was a very difficult target to chase. It was such a bad performance that I cannot even count it as a bad performance," Dhoni said in a press meet.

Powered by centuries each from Faf du Plessis, AB de Villiers and Quinton de Kock, Reuters reported, South Africa registered a mammoth 214-run win over a spiritless India in the fifth and final One-Day International (ODI) match at the Wankhede Stadium here on Sunday to clinch the one-day series 3-2.
