Even as the uproar over Shiv Sena forcing the cancellation of Pakistani singer Gulam Ali's performance in Mumbai continues, Google has kept up its tradition of honoring legendary artistes. On his 67th birth anniversary today, Google paid a tribute to noted Pakistani singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan with one of its customary doodles.
The Google Doodle shows Khan sitting in a cross-legged position in front of a microphone, accompanied by musicians in the background — a typical seating arrangement followed by qawwali singers. Khan is shown singing with his left hand raised in the air, as if engrossed in a beautiful taan.
Noted for his songs such as Sanu ek pal chain na aawe and Kinna sonah tenu rab ne banaya among many others, Khan's music is greatly appreciated in Pakistan, India as well as abroad.
During the height of his fame, Khan also went on to release movie scores and albums in Europe, India, Japan, Pakistan, and the US.
Khan, who was born on October 13, 1948, passed away from a cardiac arrest in London in 1997, when he was just 48 years old.
