Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the Dadri lynching is louder than a thousand speeches. While the incident has shaken the country, the statements from leaders of his party have mostly been qualified, and in some cases outright shameful. All of that would have been overlooked if Modi had posted about the incident on Twitter, which he recently encouraged other world leaders to engage more on.

Here are 11 tweets we would have loved to see from the Prime Minister. Amidst posting about his travels, visiting dignitaries and other distractions of the top job, a few 140 character messages would have sent some very strong messages. A week has passed since the lynching. It's still not too late.

The lynching In Dadri deserves our unqualified condemnation. No provocation justifies violence. State government should act swiftly.

My thoughts are with Mohammed Akhlaq's family at this time. I pray for the swift recovery of his son who was injured in this barbaric attack.

I urge UP government and @CMOfficeUP to act swiftly against the perpetrators of the Dadri attack. Such incidents are a blot on the nation.

Mitron, the Dadri incident is being used to spread divisiveness in society for political ends. People must recognize and reject such efforts.

My government came to power promising Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas. We will not allow anyone to detract from this agenda.

As I said during my Independence Day speech, the poison of communalism and casteism has no place in India.

I want to congratulate young Sartaj and I join him when he says 'Saare Jahan Se Achha, Hindustan Humara'. I’m proud of this young officer.

Mobile phones and social media, pillars of my Digital India dream, are being used to spread communal poison. This must cease immediately.

I'm dismayed by the escalation of tensions in Dadri. This is not the time for politics. Let's work towards healing the wound in Dadri.

Baseless canards are being spread in the aftermath of Dadri incident. No citizen of India should feel unsafe under my watch.

I'm pained by the vitiated communal atmosphere. Our children deserve to inherit a better India. Peace and pluralism are non-negotiable.
