Lorry Collides With Bengaluru-Nanded Express; Congress MLA Venkatesh Naik Among 5 Dead

Five people were killed and eight injured when a granite lorry hit one of the AC coaches of the Bengaluru-Nanded Express in Andhra Pradesh early Monday morning.

Karnataka Congress legislator from Devadurg, Venkatesh Naik, was also one of the people killed in the accident.

According to IBNLive, at approximately 2:20 am this morning, the brakes of the granite lorry failed and it collided into the passing Bengaluru-Nanded Express in Penukonda Mandal, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The helper in the lorry was also killed in the accident.

"One lorry filled with stones broke closed gate and dashed into train. It led to derailment of four coaches. Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu is monitoring development," Railways Spokesperson Anil Saxena said. Now, the Railway Minister has also announced that an ex gratia will be given to the injured as well as the kin of the dead in the accident, reported ANI. Meanwhile, rescue work has been launched by the railway officials as well as the local police.
