A Rare Recording: Listen To Captain Lakshmi Sahgal Singing Jana Gana Mana

“The fight will go on,” Captain Lakshmi Sehgal had said one day in 2006, while sitting in her crowded Kanpur clinic. At 92, she was still seeing patients every morning.

Arguably the last soldier of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the freedom fighter passed away in July last year.

As India celebrates its 69th Independence Day, it's the day we remember our freedom fighters. And, what better way than to listen to this rare recording of Sehgal singing our national anthem.

Inspired by the revolutionary ideology of Netaji, she joined Rani of Jhansi Regiment of the Azad Hind Fauj in 1943 and fought the Second World War on the side of the Axis Power against the British Army. She was also appointed a cabinet member in the temporary Azad Hind government.
