BENGALURU—A school watchman was arrested on Monday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 3-year-old child at her school in Indiranagar.

According to reports, parents came to know about the incident as the girl complained of pain in her private parts after returning from school in the afternoon on Monday, following which they informed police.

Police said the girl was taken for medical examination at Bowring Hospital last evening.

A case has been booked under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) and investigation is on, they said.

Parents of the students studying in the school staged a silent protest outside the school building, while police beefed up security near the school to maintain law and order.

This is not the first time that sexual child abuse is making headlines in Bangalore.

Last year, following several incidents of sexual assault in school premises, the Karnataka home minister and chief minister had warned of serious penal action against schools violating guidelines issued by the Bangalore police to protect children from sexual attacks in schools.

A six-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her teacher in a private school in October last year. The principal school and one of the directors of the school were later arrested on charges of negligence for allegedly not following guidelines issued by the police for the safety of children in schools.

The case had emerged a week after a nursery student was allegedly sexually abused at another school in the IT city.

Before that, in 2012, an English headmaster of an international school was arrested for making inappropriate comments and advances on the students. Paul Meekin was soon uncovered as not just an impostor who got the job under false pretences but a pedophile wanted by the British police.
