NEW DELHI -- A 20-year-old tourist from the US has alleged that she was molested by a cab driver of a city-based private company following which an FIR was registered by Delhi Police against him today.

The woman who had come to Delhi on a tourist visa was allegedly molested by the cab driver in Chittaranjan Park area of South East Delhi on July 24, police said.

"We have registered a case against the accused after we received the relevant papers from Ahmednagar (Maharashtra) police where the complainant had originally lodged her complaint and FIR was registered," said Mandeep Singh Randhawa, DCP of South East Delhi.

The FIR was lodged at Chittaranjan Park Police station and raids are being conducted to arrest the driver who has already been been identified, said the officer.

Earlier, a case was registered on her complaint at Tophkhana police station in Ahmednagar in Maharashtra against Devraj Chauvan (30) on July 28 and it was later transferred to Chitaranjan Park police station here for further probe as the crime took place in that area, said Saurabh Tripathi, Superintendent of Police of Ahmednagar.

"The driver was booked under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code," the Ahmednagar SP said.

The girl had reportedly come to Delhi along with other tourists and had booked the taxi online. She was staying in a hotel in Chittaranjan Park area, said a senior Delhi Police officer.

"After the incident she went to Ahmednagar to visit a spiritual centre. Initially, she could not speak about the incident due to fear but after coming to Ahmednagar, she shared the incident with her colleagues," police said.

Later, she met the Ahmednagar SP and narrated the incident after which the case was filed against the driver.
