A former Indian cricket physiotherapist has been accused of sexually assaulting a masseuse in a Northern Ireland hotel, during the World T20 qualifiers, according to reports.
Bashir Ashai (42), who has worked with the Mumbai Ranji cricket team before working with Nepal's national cricket team, was produced before a court on Thursday after a La Mon Hotel masseuse complained that he entered the massage room without his underwear and groped her.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday.
The Cricket Association of Nepal on Thursday said it had terminated Ashai's contract. "We did not know exactly what happened. After we were informed of the incident, we terminated the physio's contract," Nepal coach Pubudu Dassanayake told Mumbai Mirror.
According to a statement by a constable at the Ards Magistrate Court which was reported on the Belfast Telegraph, Ashai refused to wear his underpants despite being instructed to do so, saying he had bruised his buttock area and groin during a training session.
Minutes into the session, Ashai grabbed the masseuse's hands and tried to touch her inappropriately, reports Belfast Telegraph.
Later, Asahi apologised to the masseuse in the hotel manager's presence and "offered a £10 tip, which was refused."
However, Ashai's lawyer denied that he grabbed the masseuse's hands during the massage.Suggest a correction
