Another day, another well-loved Hollywood film being adapted for a desi audience.

The Fault In Our Stars (2014), an adaptation of John Green's best-selling novel starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, is being remade by Bollywood. According to a Bombay Times report, the Hindi remake of the blockbuster that garnered a massive fan following among teens will feature Deepika Padukone in the lead role. It is being directed by her good friend Homi Adjania (Cocktail, Finding Fanny, that Vogue My Choice video) and produced by Dinesh Vijan.

The original film directed by Josh Boone proved to be one of the biggest hits of 2014, grossing $307 million worldwide against a budget of $12 million. BT reports that while the subject — of two teens suffering from terminal cancer — will remain the same, the Hindi adaptation will have more humour than the original. Padukone will begin shooting for it after she finishes promoting Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Bajirao Mastani, due to release in December this year.

A report published by The Indian Express last year also speculated that her male co-star would be none other than Varun Dhawan.
