Veteran actress and BJP MP Hema Malini on Wednesday blamed the father of a two-year-old child who died in an accident on Thursday, alleging he did not follow traffic rules. The actress had also been injured in the episode.

"How I wish the girl's father had followed the traffic rules - thn this accident could have been averted & the lil one's life safe! (sic)," she tweeted early Wednesday morning. "My heart goes out to the child who unnecessarily lost her life and the family members who have been injured in the accident."

Even as the child's father, Hanuman Mahajan, blamed the actress-turned-politician and her party aides for not rushing the child to hospital (the actress was taken to Fortis hospital immediately while the others injured in the incident were taken by an ambulance to a government hospital later), Malini said that the entire incident could have been averted if Mahajan had driven with care.

Reacting strongly against her comments, Mahajan said, "I had my indicator on. I followed all traffic rules. She is a big name but must at least think before speaking. Instead of blaming me... had my little girl been taken to hospital with Hema Malini she could have been saved now."

The politician has also claimed that she was "helpless" and in deep trauma following the accident and accused them of "maligning her" for not taking the rest of the injured with her to the hospital.

As for the sensation-hungry media & a few members of the public who had a field day maligning me even when I was helpless &in deep trauma..

...who actually & unbelievably stooped to the lowest levels of human decency, I can only say "Shame on u" &"God Bless"!

On Thursday, Hema Malini's Mercedes had collided with an Alto car carrying two children, two women, and one man driving the car. The incident, reported in Dausa in Rajasthan, had killed the two-year-old girl while her elder brother, who is six years old, was badly injured. Malini's driver was booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

Several people were outraged with Malini's comments.

There is a grieving family. And then a blessed Hema Malini Ji who survived. To make a cold, callous statement blaming them, is sad.

@dreamgirlhema Maam how we wish had ur driver not been speeding over limits, the accident could have still been averted.

The police already said that Hema malini car was over speeding.. & arrogant MP of BJP Hema malini is asking her father to follow the rules.
