A three-year-old child was brutally raped and violated in New Delhi on Saturday evening by a man who was known to her parents, who she used to call 'uncle'.

According to agency reports, the girl, who lives with her parents in a slum cluster in Pilanji village near Sarojini Nagar in South Delhi, was lured away and raped at an isolated plot on Saturday.

"She seems to have been lured away by the perpetrator while playing outside her house; her neighbour discovered her sometime later and informed her parents, following which they rushed her to hospital," a police officer told The Hindu.

The girl, who was used to staying around and playing at the small eatery run by her parents near her home, was found wailing and crying after 10:15 pm. According to the police, she mentioned one "uncle" before losing consciousness, according to the TOI.

It was also found that the child, who is still battling for her life in an intensive care unit, was violated with a wooden object after being raped.

Now, a case under sections of Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act and Section 376 of the IPC has been registered at the Sarojini Nagar police station.

According to The Hindu, the perpetrator of the crime still remains at large.
